$4.5 Million Dollar Settlement Reached in Wrongful Death of 57-Year Old Stroke Patient
Paid By Undisclosed Chicago Area Hospital
On January 17, 2026, the family of a family of a 57-year-old West Suburban resident reached a $4.5 million settlement on behalf of their father who died following his admission to the Hospital with Stroke-Like symptoms. The settlement agreement was negotiated during a mediation with Judge Keith Brown, ret. of ADR Systems.
In this lawsuit, the family alleged that their father presented to the Hospital shortly after awakening from a nap with complaints of dizziness and double vision. The Plaintiffs alleged that the Hospital failed to initiate stroke protocol including neurological monitoring and administering clot -busting medication. The Plaintiff also alleged that critical neurological imaging including CTs and MRIs were not performed timely and were then not addressed timely. The patient worsened overnight at the Hospital and then experienced brain swelling leading to a heart attack, unresponsiveness and death.
The Hospital and their doctors denied that they failed to promptly recognize the decedent’s stroke like symptoms, and claimed that he was not a candidate for clot busting medication because he arrived at the hospital after the period of time when it may be safely administered.
The father left behind his wife and five adult children.
The family was represented by Jeffrey Friedman and Arijana Keserovic of the Law Office of Jeffrey Friedman, P.C. in Chicago, Illinois.
