Chicago, IL—A Woodstock man died just one hour after falling 35 feet at Soldier Field Sunday, Nov. 28, 2010. The unfortunate incident, which the Cook County medical examiner’s office ruled to be accidental, occurred during a Chicago Bears game against the Philadelphia Eagles, according to information provided by the Chicago Sun-Times.
Reports indicated 23-year-old Stuart Haverty was at a Bears game when he decided to jump over a three-foot barrier on the colonnade level during halftime. Upon doing so, he plummeted 35 feet from the ledge he was standing on and landed on a flat roof, located on the outside of the west side of the stadium.
Given that a pack of cigarettes and a lighter were found near Haverty’s body, police seem to believe he might have climbed over the barrier in an attempt to smoke a cigarette. Reports noted that smoking is prohibited at Soldier Field.
