A family filed a wrongful death lawsuit Tuesday against an Illinois construction company after one of its drivers was involved in a car crash in Lee County in western Illinois last year that killed three of their relatives.

The lawsuit filed in Cook County Circuit Court alleges that Martin & Company Excavating was negligent when Nathan Merrill drove a company car at a high speed through a stop sign and struck and killed the driver of another vehicle and two of his passengers. Both Merrill and the company are named as defendants.

Merrill was driving south on Harmon Road near the intersection with U.S. Route 30, on June 17, 2011, when he ran through a stop sign. John Parrett was driving eastbound on US Route 30 near Harmon Road in Nelson when the two cars collided, according to the lawsuit.
