Raspberry Falls Residents Seek To Drop Lawsuit After Tainted Water Claims

It is not yet clear whether the $300 million lawsuit filed by a residents in the Raspberry Falls subdivision north of Leesburg will move forward to trial. In a hearing last week Ted Yoakam, the attorney representing the residents, made an oral motion to non-suit the lawsuit, which, if granted, would stop all the proceedings against Loudoun Water, Van Metre, and K. Hovnanian Homes. RI jury sides with state in personal injury case

PROVIDENCE, R.I.—A jury has sided with the state of Rhode Island in a $40 million personal injury lawsuit brought a paralyzed man. A spokeswoman for Attorney General Peter F. Kilmartin says a Providence County Superior Court jury on Monday ruled the state does not have to pay damages to Brett A. Roy and his family. Roy was paralyzed in 2008 after he dived into a pond located at the World War II Memorial State Park in Woonsocket. $5 million awarded in wrongful death lawsuit

Steve Stout OSF St. Francis Healthcare Systems based in Peoria has agreed to a settlement of $5 million with the estate of Richard J. Berry of Streator relating to a wrongful death lawsuit stemming from Berry's death in December, 2009. Circuit Judge Joseph Hettel approved the settlement and dismissed the case this week. Victims of childhood sexual abuse have more time to sue

The statute of limitations, or deadline, for filing a lawsuit for childhood sex abuse in Illinois will increase to 20 years. Currently, the deadline is ten years, and in some cases five years. Under the new law, a victim has 20 years from the day they turn 18, or 20 years from the time when they discover that they were abused and it caused them injury, to file a lawsuit.
